Love Always Wins

Just a few weeks ago, I wrote about my thoughts concerning the unexpected 2020 pandemic. I imagined that, just like me, everyone’s hopes, dreams and aspirations were big for the long awaited year of 2020. After COVID-19 flooded us like a tsunami, and seeing so much heartbreak after so much loss; I expressed how much LOVE I began witnessing all around me. We witnessed so much LOVE within our communities, for our police officers, nurses, doctors, first responders, healthcare workers, truck drivers, and grocery workers. There seemed to be so much LOVE for each other. So many working with each other, helping each other, food pantries donating to families in need and donating meals to healthcare workers. The list goes on. Hope had been sprinkled everywhere. THEN, the death of George Floyd happened. I wasn’t going to write about this, but I feel compelled to express how completely broken my heart is for so many reasons. I imagine our world’s heart is completely broken too. We went from witnessing LOVE everywhere, to witnessing HATE and ANGER everywhere. I won’t go into detail about my own opinions, as I do not want this blog to be a debate of any sort. But what we are witnessing in our world in general, in addition to the division of people, cultures, the rioting, the looting, and the complete disrespect for our law enforcement officers is horrendous. It is completely disgraceful to have one bad situation turn into more bad situations. The majority of our law enforcement are good, honorable, brave men and women in blue. Retaliation, destruction, violence and a will to harm anyone, including the good men and women in blue, isn’t the answer. In my faith, I pray for our world, our nation, and our country to be healed. We are better than this. In my heart and mind, there will be continued prayers for peace, unity, justice, wisdom, fairness, protection, truth, but especially LOVE, to prevail. I’ll land it with this, Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, “Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that.”
